FUEL INCREASE: NIGERIANS SHOULD RISE
Today, Thursday, September 23 2004, the government of General Olusegun Obasanjo has again increased the pump price of petrol to N52.00 (Fifty-Two Naira) in Lagos and Abuja, and more than that amount in other parts of the Federation. Obasanjo has done so in the wake of a crippling Labour Bill, and obviously unjust and indeed a ridiculous decision of the Federal High Court.
It is ironic that while the Federal Government has raked in an excess oil windfall of more than N400,000,000,000,.00 (Four hundred Billion Naira) in the last three (3) months from the sale of crude oil abroad, Nigerians at home are being squeezed out of existence for the profit wehave made abroad. This is socially criminal, economically inexplicable and politically wicked and anti-people. .
I therefore call on all trade unions all over the country to lead the masses of our people in rising against unending and unjustifiable prices in petroleum products. Already the poverty that has enveloped this country is crucially dehumanizing. This latest anti-people increase will worsen and exacerbate the social-economic problems of our people. .
General Olusegun Obasanjo regime has proved beyond all shreds of doubts that all his economic policies which are now encapsulated in the needs can best be described as National Economic Enslavement and Dehumanizing Strategy to destroy the masses of our people for the upliftment of a few corruptly rich Nigerians. .
Let us all collectively end this unconstitutional and diabolically dictatorial economic regime now in the interest of the stability of this country future of our children's children.
