PRESS STATEMENT ON THE IMPEACHMENT OF GOVERNOR AYO FAYOSE AND HIS DEPUTY AND THE ISSUE OF SUSPENSION OF THE CHIEF JUDGE OF EKITI STATE Ayo Fayose has been removed from office through the impeachment process under Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999. A very corrupt chief executive officer of a State, a dictatorial and lawless person has lost his governorship by impeachment. His immunity under Section 308 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 is over. He can now be tried for money laundering and other heinous crimes he has committed while in the governance of the affairs of Ekiti people. It is therefore a good riddance to a bad rubbish.
ISSUE OF UNCONSTITUTIONAL SUSPENSION OF THE CHIEF JUDGE AND THE APPOINTMENT OF THE ACTING CHIEF JUDGE BY THE LEGISLATURE
What should be done to this issue of unconstitutional suspension of the Chief Judge who failed to appoint men and women of unquestionable integrity as enjoined under Section 188(5) of the Constitution and what should happen to the Acting Chief Judge whose action led to the Constitution of a panel of men and women of unquestionable integrity as enjoined in Section 188(5) should be left to the court of competent jurisdiction to decide. Any opinion outside a court decision in this respect is not a court order whether such opinion is that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria or not.
Finally, I wish to state most categorically that I support the impeachment of Ayo Fayose as I have done from the beginning, because he was a corrupt Governor who could only be removed by impeachment under the present constitutional dispensation.
