Dear Sir,
OPEN LETTER ON THE RE-OPENING AND RE-INVESTIGATION OF THE ASSASSINATION OF DELE GIWA
We refer to the statement credited to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar Adua and published in the newspapers of Sunday, 9th December, 2007 that you should re-open and re-investigate all the unresolved and known assassinations that have taken place in Nigeria.
It is obvious that one of the most important assassinations is that of our client and friend late Dele Giwa, a foremost Nigerian journalist who was assassinated by a parcel bomb by the government of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida on Sunday, 19th October, 1986.
We forward herewith a Press Statement issued by Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN on Friday, 19th October, 2007 on the 21st anniversary of the murder of Dele Giwa. In it, we asked for a re-opening and thorough re-investigation of the assassination of Dele Giwa and other Nigerians who were assassinated thereafter.
For ease of reference, we attach a copy of the 16 - page Press Statement which was widely published in various Nigerian newspapers, magazines and other mass media.
We hope, you will perform your duty effectively, efficiently and without fear or favour believing that whatever you do will be under the full glare of the Almighty God and posterity.
We wish you well!
Yours sincerely,
ADINDU UGWUZOR
On behalf of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN
